This week a group called ‘Ask a Muslim’ put up a billboard on the North side of Columbus that stated ‘Jesus is Muslim’. Of course some evangelical Christians got the vapors. They plan on holding a rally and prayer vigil against the billboard this Saturday. Really. The Christians plan on protesting a billboard. And ‘Coach’ Dave Daubenmire is involved.
The billboard, placed by the Ask a Muslim organization, suggests that passersby “seek the truth,” and lists the group’s website.
Members of several Christian churches say they will pray, preach sing and carry signs below the billboard on Cleveland Avenue.
“Jesus isn’t Muslim. To insinuate that he is, is a lie, an absurdity,” said the Rev. Bill Dunfee, pastor of New Beginnings Ministries in Warsaw in Coshocton County.
Muslims call Jesus a prophet and consider all prophets — including Abraham, Moses and Mohammed — to be Muslims.
Of course our local Sinclair TV station (WSYX) had to interview religious extremist and history rewriter ‘Coach’ Dave Daubenmire – why I have no idea but one of his comments stood out for me:
Sounds pretty racist doesn’t it. He wants to know why Muslims would put up the billboard with that message during Lent in a community that is majority pro-Jesus. As if that really matters. I guess the 1st amendment only applies to him???
Just because someone puts up a billboard message that is contrary to your beliefs doesn’t actually take your beliefs away. Holding a rally against a billboard says more about you then the message on the sign.
To me, this “dispute” is like arguing over the color of a unicorn.
His point is dumb, yes, but racist? No. Muslim is a RELIGION, not a RACE.
